Many, many thanks for your most generous donation, we are incredibly grateful! Your contributions will go a long way towards securing the Kafue NP, especially following the impacts of Covid on tourism.

We do what we do out of necessity, but a large part of the reward comes with sharing the successes and results with those who are equally passionate about conservation, and so, to you, we say SALUT! And THANK YOU!

All our best wishes from a rainy (but warm!) Zambia,

Phil

2022 - Anti Poaching, Kafue, Zambia - donation of USD 20,000

Zambia's economy began to show signs of recovery in 2021 despite the global health and economic traumas of 2020. International travel and trade networks and associated tourism activities recovered gradually, a welcome relief to Musekese Conservation.

All this propelled MC through the year against a backdrop of the much-anticipated inception phase of African Parks' Kafue National Park Priority Support Plan and optimistic expectations of its long-term implementation from 2022 onwards. However, tourism was again forced to take an abrupt - fortunately short - halt with the Omicron variant in November and December.

Infrastructural developments progressed well in 2021, with the acquisition of another deployment vehicle and boat for better monitoring of threatened areas, as well as the developed accommodation for a growing number of rangers (a fourth anti-poaching team was recruited). Infrastructural improvements also included the construction of a visitor center at the APU for an easier integration of safari guests into ongoing conservation efforts. Thus, our president Felix Ammann, his wife and friends found their way to Zambia in September 2021 and, in addition to an amazing safari, spent an unforgettable day with the MC team and witnessed the staff's impressive efforts to achieve the goals of conservation.

2021 - more successes in a nutshell: 159 traps recovered, 76 poachers arrested, 15 firearms and 1500 kg bushmeat confiscated, 10'000 patrol days completed (on foot, in vehicle, in boat and in the air)

The still young and contagiously enthusiastic team of Muskese Conservation is making a decisive contribution to the conservation of the fauna and flora in Kafue NP and is doing an impressive job. SwissAfrican Foundation is ever so happy to be able to support them.

Our partner
Tyrone McKeith & Phil Jeffery - Musekese Conservation
Tyrone McKeith & Phil Jeffery founded Musekese Conservation in 2018 in response to a sharp increase in poaching in the North-Eastern sector of the Kafue NP.

Both Phil & Tyrone are graduates of the Durrell Institute for Conservation and Ecology (DICE) and together have over two decades of experience working in KNP in many different capacities, from guide training and lodge management to working with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife in developing the current Park Management Plans.
Phil has grown up in Zambia and is following in the footsteps of his father, a wildlife biologist who has spent many years working in the wildlife and conservation fields in Zambia and the region. Phil spent the first few years of his life growing up in the Luangwa Valley and is a keen amateur photographer and private pilot.

Tyrone has been coming to Zambia since he was a child and now calls this wonderful country home. Tyrone is also a keen photographer and naturalist, often delivering talks about wildlife and conservation.
